The store AI assistants shop at

More shoppers now ask an AI assistant before they buy. We built Fernreach Camp Supply, a real Shopify store with invented gear, to show what the assistant gets back. On the left, an assistant asks what a customer would. On the right, the store answers through the same endpoints Shopify gives every store for AI agents. Then the assistant tries to check out, and the store's own rules decide.

The answers below were recorded from the store. Turn on JavaScript to step through them and ask the store live.

  1. We're doing three nights in the Sierra in September, two of us. What tent do you have?

Checkout takes its word for it, within limits

Pick a cart. The assistant sends it to the store's checkout, and the store applies the rules we set for it. These are real checkouts on the test store. Nobody pays them, so they expire and nothing is charged.

Try a cart

The limits we set

  • A cap on each item. Four of anything per order unless the product sets its own: two tents, six fuel canisters. Stops a mistyped quantity, or a reseller's bot.
  • A person for big orders. Orders over $400 have to be finished by a signed-in customer, not handed through by an assistant.
  • Shipping the law cares about. Fuel goes by ground only, so it can't ship to Alaska, Hawaii or US territories.
  • Nothing that isn't on the shelf. Out-of-stock sizes can't be bought. Shopify does this one on its own, as long as inventory is tracked.

The first three are a Shopify Function, a small piece of code that runs inside Shopify's checkout. It checks every order the same way, from an assistant or from a person, and the limits are settings the store can change without a developer.

What's happening here

No plugin. Just a well-kept store.

Every Shopify store already answers AI agents. What they hear depends on what the store wrote down.

  1. The store publishes how to shop it

Each Shopify store lists its agent endpoints at /.well-known/ucp, using the Universal Commerce Protocol from Shopify and Google. That's how an assistant finds the catalog, cart and checkout.

  2. The answers come from product data

Fit, materials, care, what it works with, what's in the box, shipping and returns are labeled sections in every product description, which is what an assistant reads. The same facts are kept as product fields and the description is built from them, so the two never disagree. An assistant quotes them instead of guessing.

  3. Policies are complete

Return windows, costs, exceptions and shipping times are written out in full, so the assistant can answer the question a customer would otherwise email about.

  4. Checkout has rules

Assistants without the store's approval can build a checkout but not pay for it. The shopper gets a link and pays themselves. The rules above run either way.

The assistant on this page is scripted, so it costs nothing to run and says the same thing every time. The store's answers are real: our server asks the store and shows what comes back, kept for up to an hour so the store isn't asked the same thing over and over.

For your store

What we do for a real store

We make your Shopify store the one an assistant can recommend with confidence.

  1. Ask your store what assistants ask

We run the questions your customers bring to an assistant against your live catalog and show you what comes back, and what doesn't.

  2. Fill in the answers

Fit, materials, care, compatibility, what's in the box, shipping and returns, as product fields your team can keep up to date, with policies written out in full.

  3. Set the limits

Quantity caps, review amounts, shipping rules and anything else your business needs, built as a checkout Function you can adjust in Shopify's admin.

  4. Keep watching

Assistants change every month. We check what they see and keep your store's answers current.
